Olympic Great Michael Phelps Takes Stand Against Doping

Michael Phelps, renowned for his record-breaking Olympic achievements, has taken a strong stance against doping in sports.

At a recent sponsor event in Paris, Phelps advocated for lifetime bans for any athlete caught using performance-enhancing drugs.

During his speech, Phelps emphasized the need for stringent rules to preserve the integrity of the Olympic Games. "If an athlete tests positive for a banned substance, they should be barred from competing for life. No exceptions," he declared. "One strike, and you're out."

This declaration follows reports from the World Anti-Doping Agency and World Aquatics, revealing that 23 Chinese swimmers tested positive for banned substances before the Tokyo Olympics. Notably, nine of these swimmers won medals in Paris, contributing to relay teams' successes.

Phelps expressed his concerns about fairness in competition. "It's unacceptable if all athletes are not subjected to the same rigorous testing. It undermines the integrity of the sport," he said. "Those willing to take such risks don't belong in the competition."

Reflecting on his own career, Phelps shared his commitment to clean sport. "Throughout my career, I faced accusations of cheating," he recounted. "To prove my dedication to clean competition, I underwent extensive testing - blood and urine tests - on a weekly basis."

Phelps stands by his 'drug-free' achievements. With 23 Olympic gold medals, he proudly stated that his success was drug-free. "I achieved my success the right way," he affirmed. "It's possible to reach the top without cheating."

Despite his success, Phelps acknowledged the challenges of competing in a potentially uneven field. "I often felt the playing field was not level," he admitted. "I had suspicions about some competitors, but that was beyond my control."

To address the issue, Phelps proposed a global standard for testing athletes. "A unified approach to testing worldwide is essential," he suggested. "And anyone caught should face a lifetime ban from the sport."
